As you watch the movie, keep these questions in mind. To answer the questions, you need to do four things:
- Answer the question: In 1 sentence, what is the answer to the question (like a thesis statement on what your answer will argue)
- Term: What are the sociological terms being asked about in the question? (This will require you to refer to what you read in the chapter and apply it.) do not copy the definition from the book, put everything in your own words.
- Examples: this is where the movie comes in. After you explain your answer, then you need to support it with examples from the movie. Be sure to state specific examples (scenes, people, etc).
- Explanation of connection: examples aren't enough, you need to explain how those examples are connected to the answer. How are the examples you are providing connected to the term you identified? Explain their connection.
Each answer should be at least 100+ words in length though some may need more. Remember, the instructor can't read your mind on what you are thinking, so you need to explain your thoughts.
- How do you think this video represents people and the healthcare system in America?
- How does this video show social inequalities?
- How does this movie represent the concept of the “sick role”?
- Think back to the deviance chapter. Explain how the actions John took were NOT deviant.
- One issue in deviance is the abuse of power. Did the police abuse their power in this movie? If so, how? If not, why do you say that?
